Highfield House was built in the 1860’s as a private residence by John Kearsley - a local paint manufaturer and, at one time, Ripon's MP. The Grade 2 Listed Victorian villa was acquired by the College of Ripon and York St John, over the years being used for a variety of purposes: teaching space, meeting rooms and a hall of residence for students. Some North Yorkshire teachers still ask if they can view their old bedroom!
Highfield House now accommodates Schools ICT, a traded service of North Yorkshire County Council and is used as a centre for ICT in North Yorkshire.
