Is your website secure?

This week has seen another school website "hacked" (taken offline and replaced with religious/ political propaganda) at this moment in time we do not know how this has happened as Schools ICT do not manage this specific web site. Normally this type of attack happens when old versions of software are used, or there is a lack of security and software maintenance, where servers are not kept up to date and web design software is not updated and maintained.

Your School website is your portal to the internet community and it is vital that you or your supplier maintain the software with security and update packages.

If you require support or guidance with the following don't hesitate to contact Schools ICT Cirrus Web Team on 01609 536086 option 1

I use Schools ICT Cirrus Website Services (Web Presence Builder, Joomla etc.)?

You do not need to do anything as our servers and web tools are checked weekly to ensure protection against the latest security issues.

I have a 3rd Party Website and 3rd Party Hosting (i.e. no web services with Schools ICT)?

If you use a third party web supplier  you will need to contact them as soon as possible to request they confirm your website software is up to date (i.e. Joomla, WordPress etc.). If it is not it will need updating immediately and you should request that the company provide a plan for regular updates.

I have a 3rd Party Website (i.e. website not built by Schools ICT) but use Schools ICT Hosting (i.e. website is held on Schools ICT servers) ?

Schools ICT will shortly be conducting a survey of all sites on our servers, those found to be insecure will be suspended and the school notified as the site will put the server at risk.
