We have now had confirmation that there is a issue with the Internet service at Phoenix in Leeds. Phoenix technical staff and Virgin Media are working on this now.
Sophos Anti-virus System
Sophos have announced the retirement of their Enterprise Console version 4.5 and Client version 9.7. You may see messages on your PCs and servers advising you of these retirements.
Office 365 – Firefox
Microsoft have received reports of an issue with some customers using Firefox that means the toolbar above e-mails disappear when composing a message.
Microsoft engineers are fixing this at the moment, but the current workaround for this is to put the browser into full screen mode, where the tool bar should re-appear.
To do this, press F11 on your keyboard and the browser will expand to full screen mode. Whilst in full screen mode the address bar and other icons will minimize to the top of the screen. To make this show again, hold your mouse at the top of the browser and it will maximize again. To exit full screen, press F11 again.
Alternatively, you can use a different browser such a Google Chrome or a later version of Internet Explorer (9+).

IMPORTANT: *.zip Email Virus in North Yorkshire Schools
Zip (nnn.zip) File Email Virus
Emails claiming to be from large reputable companies (Amazon, T-Mobile, Companies House, HMRC, etc.) are circulating in North Yorkshire Schools which have a zip file attached to them.
Within the zip file is an .exe file which if clicked on installs a virus on your computer.
The fake email has been carefully styled to look like an official email and may say that it is in relation to something that you have ordered, queried, booked etc.

PGP Secure Email
Please be informed that there are still on-going technical issues with the PGP secure email system.
We are making progress with the investigation of this issue, but until we notify you that the encryption is working correctly, please do not send emails via the PGP system as these will not be encrypted.
Please note that this does not affect the sending of encrypted emails sent via Criminal Justice Secure Email (CJSM) or Government Connect Secure Extranet (GCSx).

Schools ICT recommends that schools use Microsoft Operating systems and Microsoft Applications that are supported by Microsoft. This will reduce the likelyhood of computers getting infected by malware or viruses, if you have any questions or concerns please contact the Schools ICT helpdesk on 01609 536086.
Microsoft provides technical and security updates on their products but as per all things this is not forever. It is strongly recommended that all schools upgrade or replace computers that fall outside the Microsoft Extended Support End Date.
For the very latest information please check out the Microsoft Support Lifecycle search page . This is maintained by Microsoft and so contains all the latest information
Important: if you use Microsoft Office to edit documents held in Office 365 OneDrive or Office 365 SharePoint, Microsoft only support the latest two versions.
